| Tasks & responsibilities |
- Provides technical direction to drafters, designers, and lower level engineers. May act as a group leader. Contribute to short/long-term objectives of M.E. for process improvement.
- Prepares designs or modifications of full range of products plus handles special assignments where there is a lack of precedents.
- Investigates new concepts for practicality, economy, and operating efficiency.
- Reviews Cost estimates and recommends appropriate action. Coordinates design standardization programs.
- Determines design changes, modifications, and standardization to facilitate manufacture at an economical, competitive level. Coordinate design practice to reduce mfg costs.
- Prepares tech articles of advanced engr principles, developments and disclosures. Operates CAD/CAE, Creates 3D solid models. Disposition of non-conforming materials.

| Candidate requirements |
- Four-year graduate degree in engineering of an accredited school.
- Thorough knowledge of machine design, stress analysis, and skill to work effectively with computer-aided software.
- 3 to 5 years in hydro turbine or other large rotating equipment desired, not required.
- Professional registration desired. Demonstrated ability to work well with others to obtain effective results; to conceive, plan, direct, and delegate extensive, complex engr work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
